What is NATA?
NATA (National Aptitude test in Architecture) is the All India Entrance exam conducted to facilitate your entrance into Architecture course. In short, it determines and tests your ability to pursue this course of architecture.
Conducted by who?
NATA Examinations are conducted by COA ( Council of Architecture) which is not just a core body constituted by the government but also provides and regulates all standards of education with respect to architecture and registration of architects and also the standards of professional conduct of architects, etc.,
India houses about 450 institutions for architecture as of 2017.
So when you need to know the purpose as to why NATA Examinations are conducted, it is to facilitate a unified scheme of examination for testing the aptitude of prospective students all over the country to apply for admissions to B.Arch degree course for any school of architecture across India( Except N.I.T and I.I.T for which the JEE-B.Arch Paper-2 has to be cleared separately).
So how does NATA 2017 make skill measurements? SKILL MEASUREMENT actually measures the aptitude of the candidate for the specific field of study that is architecture. This tests the person’s skill over drawing, Observation, aesthetic sensitivity, sense of proportion, Mathematics and Critical thinking ability.

NATA Examination is a One-way Paper based Examination on a national scale. NATA 2017 is scheduled on 16.4.2017 (SUNDAY) and the medium of examination is restricted only to English Language.
Total marks Allotted will be 200 and is divided into three major parts.
Firstly, ARCHITECTURE APTITUDE is tested for total of 60 marks where 30 questions carrying 2 marks each. Second part consists of MATHEMATICS which carries a total of 60 marks where again 30 questions each carrying 2 marks are asked. Finally in the third part, DRAWING skills are tested for a total of 80 marks where 2 questions each carrying 40marks are asked.
Total No. Of questions are 62 questions ( 30 on Architecture aptitude, 30 on Mathematics and 2 on drawing)
MINIMUM MARKS FOR PASSING
Pass exam will be decided based on post exam statistics. However a minimum of 30/120 in the first part (Maths and Aptitude) and a Minimum of 20/80( Drawing) in the second part. This total of 30+20=50 should not be understood as the total qualifying marks.
Timings of NATA Examination:
The first session is between 11.00 am to 12.30 pm (90minutes) for Architecture General aptitude and Mathematics.
Type adopted- Multiple Choice questions.
Mode of answering will be OMR sheet
The second session is between 12.30pm to 2pm for Drawing.
Type adopted- Architecture Visualization with Pencil and paper(A4size).
There are about 69 exam centres throughout India and 3 centres in Tamil Nadu at Chennai, madurai and Coimbatore.
Results will be declared on 10.6.2017
